Dental Bonding

Dental Bonding Melbourne, Richmond and Hawthorn

We all like to smile! Just the act of smiling elevates your mood. It makes you feel good, and smiles are infections which can lift the mood of those around you. But just one bad tooth can spoil your whole look and even lower self-esteem. Luckily, dental bonding can help repair teeth in a quick and cost-effective manner, and our experienced team here at Elevated Dental is ready to help.

What is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding is a cosmetic dental treatment in which a plastic, called resin, is applied and bonded to a tooth. Also called composite bonding, it can be used to cosmetically improve the appearance of a discoloured or chipped tooth, or it can be used functionally to fill a cavity or hole in a tooth. The resin is then customised to the patient’s tooth colour, so looks natural and appealing for any type of dental treatment. Patients love dental bonding because it is a quick and inexpensive way to fix teeth or improve a smile.

What Can Dental Bonding Fix?

Dental bonding can repair damaged teeth, improve an imperfection or fill in spaces and holes. The treatment can be completed in a shorter time than other cosmetic dental treatments, like veneers, and can be done in just one office visit. The result is a new and improved smile. Dental bonding can last five years or longer, depending on use and oral hygiene practices. Here are some situations where dental bonding can help:

Worn teeth

\

Discoloured teeth

Tooth erosion

\

Fill cavities

\

Went this afternoon for an appointment after not having been to the dentist since god-knows-when. The team booked me in at a time that suited me, were really easy to deal with, the process was simple and I was in and out (with a filling and an x-ray) within my hour lunch break. Dr James was really good and they made me feel comfortable and relaxed (even when I panicked over the big anaesthetic needle). The cost was really reasonable and I am definitely going to recommend to everyone.

How is it Done?

Dental bonding is a procedure that can be done in as little as 30 minutes in one office visit. Often requiring no anesthesia, teeth can be prepared, and bonding applied to quickly improve or repair a tooth. Once the initial dental examination is completed and we know that bonding is the best treatment for your situation, this is what you can expect:

During your first appointment, a mould or 3D scan of the affected teeth will be taken
The next step will be to numb the tooth, if necessary, and place bonding onto the tooth
The newly bonded tooth (or teeth) will be polished, shaped and ready to go
Some people experience temperature sensitivity after bonding, which can be easily soothed with specialised toothpaste

Benefits of Dental Bonding

Dental bonding comes with many benefits including efficiency, lower price and a healthy smile. Our dental professionals have extensive experience with dental bonding so you can enjoy a beautifully formed new tooth with a colour that matches perfectly with your smile. Here are some of the other benefits that bonding offers:

N
Restore or improve your smile.
N
Elevate confidence so you can flash your smile anytime, even for social media pictures.
N
Keep your teeth. We believe that maintaining your own teeth is the healthiest approach to dentistry, so we do all we can to make that happen. Dental bonding can improve imperfections without having to replace your tooth.
N
Dental bonding is a healthy fix for your teeth. Bonding can stop decay, repair an old filling or protect your teeth from further damage, in some situations.
N
Quick treatment time is one of the greatest benefits. No need to return time and again, and when you spend less time in the dental chair, you spend less money.
N
Dental bonding is a cost-effective solution for many concerns.
N
Less invasive than some other dental procedures like implants

Caring for Your New Bonded Teeth

While dental bonding might look just like your natural teeth, they will need a little more care. The bonding may not be as strong as natural teeth and so are more prone to staining. And as with any cosmetic or restorative dental work, use common sense and avoid chewing ice or opening bottles with your teeth. Other than that, caring for your teeth requires sensible oral hygiene. The following are some practices that can help bonding last:

Brush your teeth twice every day, or as instructed by your dental professional
Floss according to instructions
Use any mouthwash as instructed
Limit staining food and beverages like coffee, tea, red wine and sometimes blueberries or other very colourful fruits
Do not chew or bite ice
Do not chew on pens
Don’t open bottles or other items with your teeth (this can not only harm bonding, but break perfectly healthy teeth, too)

Is Dental Bonding Right for Me?

While dental bonding is an easy and quick treatment that is suitable for many dental issues, it may not be for everyone. Sometimes teeth or gums may need to be healed first, so any current dental problems don’t get worse. If your teeth are too crooked, then bonding might not be the right solution to straighten teeth.

Our team of dental professionals here at Elevate Dental are experienced and ready to guide you through the process. When you come to us for a dental examination, we will look at the health of your gums and teeth while we listen to your concerns. Your expectations are our priority, so we are happy to work with you to find the best solution for your needs.

Dr James is an awesome dentist, I’ve had my pearly whites looked after by him for as long as I can remember and cannot fault his services. From cleaning to general filling, root canals and mouth guards, he does an excellent job. He is always mindful of your comfort and his staff are excellent too. Never had to do any rework because his work is top-notched. Thanks, James!
